* Brazil-Mercosur-CARICOM FTA Proposed
A massive Caribbean/Latin American single market could be created if proposals made recently by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva are adopted. Speaking at the opening of the First Brazil-CARICOM Summit, Lula said that the time is ripe for a free trade agreement between Mercosur, a bloc consisting of Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, and the CARICOM Caribbean countries. Lula said that the Brazil-CARICOM Summit was part of an integration process involving the Latin American and the Caribbean countries. The summit came after a meeting of the Latin American and the Caribbean countries in Bahia, Brazil, in 2008 and the creation of the Community of the Latin American and Caribbean States earlier in 2010. He added: "The integration process that we are launching is part of a movement that is rewriting the history of Latin America and the Caribbean."
* One Billion Strong Market Imminent ?
A one billion strong market may soon be created in China .... and there is still time for newcomers to enter it. So says consultant and bestselling author James McGregor. McGregor, who is now a consultant in Beijing for the worldwide communications group APCO, says: "Foreigners have always had the dream of the China market, the hundreds of millions, if not a billion, customers. The truth of the matter is that that reality is starting to approach. There is actually a huge and growing consumer market in China." McGregor, a former chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in China, said with the country's middle class expanding particularly fast a one billion strong market could be a realistic aim for determined entrepreneurs: "There is no market like China in the world. It is a continental-sized market that has another billion people to reach the middle class. If you develop a product here and could scale it up enough, you can be a global winner!"
McGregor is the author of One Billion Customers: Lessons from the Front Lines of Doing Business in China, which is available from Amazon. Also more details here:

* Hong Kong's Exports Rise By A Quarter
Hong Kong enjoyed a growth of 24.8% in total goods exports in February .... while the volume of goods imports rose 20.5% compared to the previous year. The Hong Kong Census & Statistics Department also announced that the volume of goods re-exports increased 25.3% while that of domestic exports grew 5.5%.
Apart from being a sizable market in its own right Hong Kong also serves an as important trading gateway between the rest of the world, China and much of South East Asia. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) should be the first point of contact if you want to do business there. HKTDC is the global marketing arm for Hong Kong-based manufacturers, traders and service providers. Their activities are especially geared to small and medium-sized enterprises, the chief drivers of Hong Kong's trade. With more than 40 offices worldwide, including 11 on the Chinese mainland, the HKTDC promotes Hong Kong as a platform for doing business with the mainland and Asia. The HKTDC also organises trade fairs and business missions to connect companies with opportunities in Hong Kong and on the mainland, while providing information via trade publications, research reports and online.
HKTDC.com is an online sourcing platform that connects over 120,000 credible suppliers verified by renowned authentication companies. Established by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council it attracts over 900,000 worldwide buyers to source products and services provided by China, Hong Kong and Asian suppliers. Website:

* Exploring Opportunities With Estonia
Estonia is a country located at the heart of the Baltic Sea Region - which claims to be Europe's fastest-growing market of more than 90 million people. It is a country benefitting from political and economic stability, accessibility, ease and low cost of doing business and investor equality. Since joining the European Union and NATO in 2004, Estonia has experienced strong economic growth. Today, Estonia's Government debt is among the lowest in Europe and the economy has shown considerable endurance to the global economic crisis. The Estonian Investment and Trade Agency is organised as a division within Enterprise Estonia, the country's largest support institution for business and entrepreneurship. It has a useful website here:

* Association Finder
This is a great little resource if you're interested in doing business with South Africa. Association Finder is basically a database of not just associations in South Africa but institutes, federations, societies, guilds, chambers, councils and trusts too. There are over 5,000 listed on the database with more being listed all the time. Each entry comes complete with full contacts details for the organisation, plus names for key
people and in most cases a good description of what the organisation does. Obviously not every entry will be of use to importers and exporters but many of them are .... and it's a great site for finding all these useful contacts together in one place. Recommended, and I wish there were sites like this for more countries. Website:
