US Economy Looking Up ?
***********************
US Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke recently announced that the economy will begin to rebound later this year - but the recovery will probably be slower than expected. He said: "We continue to expect economic activity to bottom out, then to turn up later this year." He said that the housing market is beginning to stabilise and that the sharp inventory liquidation that has been in progress will slow over the next few quarters. "Final demand should also be supported by fiscal and monetary stimulus" said Bernanke. The US economy shrank at an annual rate of 6.1% in the first quarter of 2009, slightly less than the 6.3% drop in the previous quarter.
Opportunities To Export Food To China
***********************************
Foreign food producers can export their products to China as long as they register with China's inspection and quarantine authorities every four years, according to a new draft rule announced recently. The food safety law, which takes effect from June 1, requires all foreign food exporters to register with General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) to ensure their products are safe. The draft regulations, released on the website of the State Council Legislative Affairs Office (
www.chinalaw.gov.cn), reports that registration is valid for four years. To register foreign food exporters must provide evaluation reports from their local governments, information on the production process and a safety certificate from China's Ministry of Health (MOH).
Help With Calculating Duty & VAT
*******************************
If you're importing goods then finding out what import duty and VAT you might need to pay is one of the most important things on your 'to do' list. Many times, whether
your deal is viable or not depends on what, if anything, you might need to pay. But official government tax and VAT sites are often unhelpful - and make the situation seem a lot more complicated than it is. So here's a great site that can help you - UK Imports at
www.ukimports.org/dutyvat.html. The site explains the UK import duty and tax regime in a simple way, and tells you exactly how to calculate what you might need to pay in easy steps. By the way, not everything you import is charged duty and VAT - this site also tells you more about this here:
www.ukimports.org/basics.html. A useful and highly recommended site!
Free Research Report - Doing Business With Turkey
*********************************************Turkey has a lot of potential as a country to do business with. Not only is it a producer of low cost agricultural and manufactured goods - it is also an already massive and growing market, eager for technology and consumer goods. The exchange rate between many major world currencies and the Turkish lira is also very favourable for importers right now. Although Turkey isn't a member of the EU there's every possibility it will be within the next couple of decades - meaning the time to look at getting started is now. The World Bank has just published a brand new 82 page report - Country Profile For Turkey - explaining more about the business environment in Turkey. Some of it is a bit heavy going - but there's loads of useful information about doing business here. And best of all .... you can download a copy for FREE. Just go here:

Find Trade Associations To Help You
********************************
Whatever you're looking to import or export membership of a trade association can be really worthwhile. Trade associations can help you find suppliers and buyers, and also help you with the technicalities of moving goods around the world. Here's a great way to find trade associations to join: Trade Association Forum at
www.taforum.org. On Trade Association Forum you can find trade associations in one of three ways: By name - the forum provides comprehensive links to information on UK trade associations and the business sectors they represent. Enter the names or part of the name in the Association name box - eg. 'electronic' will find all the associations that include the word 'electronic' anywhere in their name. By activity - enter a word in the Description box - eg. 'electronic' will find all the associations that cover electronic industries even if it's not included in their name. By initial letter - click a letter to find all the associations whose name begins with that letter.
Vietnam Retail And Services Sales Up 21.5% In 2009 !
**********************************************
Vietnam is offering even more opportunities for traders with news that retail and services sales in the first four months of 2009 increased by a massive 21.5% over the same period last year to reach 360.4 trillion Vietnamese dong (US$21.2 billion) - according to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam. Of this, trading enjoyed an increase of 22.2%, hotel and restaurant business rose 18.4%, tourism rose 21.5% and service business sales rose 16.3%, said the office.
The increase in the country's retail and services sales in this period was attributed to the ongoing positive impacts of the government's economic stimulus package, said Le Dinh An, Director of the National Centre of Information and Socio-Economic Forecast. An also forecast that Vietnam is likely to see its consumer purchasing power increase further in the coming months because of the higher monthly salary implemented by the government on May 1.
